Being True to Yourself

When was the last time you decided to do something, then you didn't feel good about it later?  Here's something zany I did and what I've learned since...

The morning after I ate the worm, I felt pretty stupid.

You know, the worm in the bottle of tequila, down at the bottom with some wormy sediment... Yep, that's the one.

Legend had it that the person who gets the worm gets a happier buzz. (Or maybe in reality everyone is laughing later about how they're a schmuck.)  In the light of day (aka had I been thinking straight) my response to the challenge might have been: "Eat a worm? Eeeew. No thanks. You go ahead!"

But it was a night out with some new friends when I was living in Texas. It was decades ago, and I would like to think today I would have the courage to turn it down amidst the cheering me on to just do it... I'm not sure, but I DO know that today I am MUCH better at honoring myself regardless of what others do or say.

Can you relate?

There are times when you should go your own way, no matter what everybody else is doing. There are times when you're afraid and you really WANT to do something--and that is when peer pressure is helpful. There are times when it's just silly fun and you say YES!

But if you don't know what you want or how to decide, it can be stressful (or we can feel a little stupid in the morning).

Sure, I want to be liked by my peers. I even love a little cheering on!! (Who doesn't?)  BUT- these days, I won't do something that doesn't resonate with my core.

I've become really good at not doing things and standing strong. I still like to have fun, of course! I learned how to make decisions quickly that align with my purpose, my sense of self, and how I want to run my business and live my life! (Not perfect (!)...but a lot less flaky and a lot less ruminating on what I should have done...)

So back to you my friend...  Are you facing a wormy decision?
